Overall, a great game to play if you want to have a quick race with Sonic and his rivals. You can also get cards for each achievement and all of them have a colorful Sonic related image, which include the characters, items and backgrounds from both Modern and classic eras. I also like the fact that you can win costumes for each character by completing each task, like using the ability several amount of times, running as many miles as possible, winning races and completing stories. The models are good, but it seems that they lack mouths, but then again, it's not that distracting due to the screen size. So as a result you have 4 stories to complete (Although you have to complete them twice.) As for the graphics, for a mid 2000s portable console game it's ok, may look generic, but the developers tried their best to make sure the world looks as creative as possible for a small screen. There are 8 characters in total, 2 per 1 team. The second mode has mini games such as Tag, King of the hill, collect chao and even fighting. There are 3 modes per location: Regular race, Challenge and Boss battle. I can't say the story is the strongest aspect, but the gameplay is so enjoyable. ![]() In the game, 4 teams have to stop Dr Eggman Nega from freeing a creature from the other dimension - the Ifrit. ![]() There's also multiplayer mode where you can do one of the many different modes from the story mode which is cool but I don't how many people actually did that but whatever. What a fun game to play on PSP back in 2013/2014. But yeah, the added variety is very much appreciated but I don't know if this is just me but considering the plot has a focus on Chao, a Chao Garden would've been pretty cool.Ĭard collecting is basically but there essentially just achievements so they don't matter too much. There's also a sort of hot potato game where you have a bomb and you gotta give it to the other opponent before it blows up.that's pretty sadistic but whatever. ![]() In addition to boss fights, there's also death matches where you try to drain the rings out of you're opponent, it's pretty mindless but it's alright. In Sonic Rivals 1, all you did was racing with the occasional boss fight but I guess Sega thought that variety is the spice of life and added some other things you do while progressing through the story. The AI still rubberbands like crazy which is ashame because that was pretty annoying in Rivals 1. Like for example, you can't fly when you play as Tails and you can't glide as Knuckles. But other than that special, these characters are exactly the frickin same. Instead, the more Rings you get fuel up a meter that then you can use the special. However the special ability is no longer an item itself. You can obtain different items to mess with you're opponents which is pretty standard for a racing game. The name of the game is racing against characters in classic 2D Sonic action. Similar to presentation, the gameplay isn't too different from the original game. And considering that this game came out a year after the original, I would imagine that there wasn't too much time on this. I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it but it's practically the same thing as the original game. But really other than that, the presentation doesn't seem like they really added too much. The game doesn't seem like it was made on the cheap so that's pretty cool, they upgraded the quality up a bit. But really other than that, the presentation for plot is exactly the same. However this time, there's actual voice acting so that's pretty cool, it's nice that they actually added it in. Similar to Sonic Rivals 1, the plot is presented using text boxes and character stills. That's all fine and dandy but let's actually look into the presentation of this game. Granted, this has a more coherent storyline than Rival 1 but that's fine too. I mean if it makes the funny character go fast then that's all that really matters. It's really not that complicated but in all honesty, it doesn't really need to be. Sonic and Tails just wanna stop the doctor, Silver and Espio try to make sure Infrit doesn't form, Knuckles and Rouge fight over the Master Emerald and Shadow and Metal Sonic search for the Chaos Emeralds because it turns out that it's actually Eggman Nega trying to unleash Infrit. So now the entire gang all have motives to go straight for Eggman. He wants to unleash it to take over the world but he needs the Chaos Emeralds to do so. He then finds out from Gearld Robotnik's old journal about a monster known as Infrit, a beast that gets stronger upon feeding it Chao. Eggman is kidnapping Chao and hidden them in a spooky mansion. ![]() Similar to Rivals 1, the plot isn't too complicated.
